Yes, they do crash. Preferably in the midst of a presentation :-)

Of course Macbooks don’t crash. They simply stop working of their own volition.

My Mac Book Air happens to have crashed earlier today. My first kernel panic ever, I almost felt proud. Oh, yeah, it was because of some crappy bluetooth device error. I hate that protocol.

Of course, my MacBook never ever crashed. Sometimes it just had to switch off all needless devices as keyboard and trackpad to give all its enormous computing power to process some very sophisticated algorithms to save the world …

You mean Google searching makes Macs crash?? :-)

My MacBook rarely crashes … but the one of my colleague does quite often.
I think it’s not always the software, maybe a hardware problem (RAM etc.), too. -

Sorry no sympathy for anyone who even entertains the thought of buying Mac. The ratio of disappointed Mac buyers is colossal compared to PC buyers who are savvy enough to stay with XP. Or so my PC tells me.

is this pro or anti mac? Anyway, in my graphic design class, our brand new Macs would crash all the time when just using Photoshop, and not under very heavy use either. Just randomly. In windows, it is not unlikely for programs themselves to crash, but I have VERY rarely had the entire PC itself crash. I think they are more heavy duty machines (PCs) as long as they are built with quality hardware.

lol
It very much relies on what you consider “crashing”. I have two macs, on desktop and one laptop, and two pc desktops.
Now if you are comparing kernel panics to BSOD, I’ve had only one kernel panic in the past three years but countless BSODs. I would say I have more crappy results when it comes to driver issues on the PC, I don’t even bother trying to set it up for things like my digital camera anymore. I basically never have “timing out” issues on any of them because I keep them hopped up on lots of RAM probably to the point of overkill.
However when to comes to hardware related issues. They are about equal in the number of problems but it can be a much bigger pain in the ass to fix if you happen to have an Mac especially an iMac. I won’t even attempt to open up my iMac if the harddrive happens to die and I’ve had to replace two monitor screens already, covered by warranty, but very annoying.

I have a pc laptop AND desktop…both over 2 years old (getting out dated, I know) and NEITHER ONE HAS EVER CRASHED. I know PC’s crash, but neither of mine have and I have known other people to have crashed macs. Hmmmmmm.

I’ve had my macbook for little over a year now and I think I’ve had about 5 or 6 kernel panics. I guess that counts as crashing. Oh, had to restart it a few times ofcourse, when the whole thing just kind of froze, or went extremely slow.

There isn’t much difference between a Mac and a PC - they’re both human-made, they’ll both crash. Even Linux, Unix, and BSD machines crash (actually quite often…). For each OS you’re exchanging levels of stability, ability, etc. Most people don’t understand that simply because they haven’t gotten to the point yet where they don’t need to be in the “perfect” world Macs limit them to - but they’re just fine for people who just surf the web and do homework.

Do they? May be the intel ones but not the PowerPCs.

Two words; BACK UP
I had my 1 year old MacBook crash when it’s HD failed…when I called Apple, they sheepishly admitted that a whole group of MacBooks have had HD’s fail (Seagates to boot). So, lesson learned…back up every night.
Oh, and our Dell, has crashed 6 times in 6 years….it’s currently being used as a door stop.

Silly to believe that any OS can’t crash.
But MAC’s rarely do. -

non-mac. Always has been, always will be.

The crash is entirely Photoshopped. PHOTOSHOPPED!

Using the “$” to spell Microsoft is such a Mac-faggy thing to do; I picture you alone with your four cats in your studio apartment masturbating to an 8×10″ of SJ.
Macintosh is the most blatantly obvious example of planned-obsolescence that one could possibly overpay for - every one of them is designed to fail. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t have the same dead-as-dog-doo Powerbook collecting dust in a drawer somewhere.
That you clowns continue to shell out thousands for these inferior products is testament to what a cliquey club you’ve really created – why else shell out so much for something you know is going to fail beyond repair? -

And THIS is why Macs are awful. Your mac crashes and then you have to spend it back to the manufacturer. Boy am I glad I built my computers. ;)

Robin said on May 13th, 2010:
they might crash, but definitely not as often as PC’s do (at least mine doesn’t)
